“From the cowardice that shirks from new truth,

From the laziness that is content with half truth,

From the arrogance that thinks it knows all truth,

O GOD of TRUTH, deliver us” - An Old Jewish Prayer

07/21/18 – So, 3 weeks after the first entry on July 1st, there was not  a single “search term” entry which tells us that there is no need for a post like this unless we turn it into a blog.   One item we would like to take up though — a website we discovered in […]

The Sinaite’s Musical Liturgy – 1st Sabbath of July

July 1, 2018 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[Every other Sabbath, we sing our Liturgy; we have no original music of or own; our roots are Christian and we are familiar with their hymnody,  so we borrow their music.   When the lyrics reflect our belief system, we leave them as originally written; otherwise, we make minor revisions, if not do a total rewrite, […]

[First posted in 2012, shortly after we started this website.  When a visitor clicks old posts, it gives us the opportunity to review it and decide if it is still relevant to our ever-developing current understanding and convictions. This week, Israel is again in the news, battling it out with an old old enemy that […]

If there’s no Devil, then there’s no hell?

Simply follow the logical progression:   If man is the only created being made in God’s image and given free will, then man is the only one who can use that free will for good or for bad, for right and for wrong, for compliance with God as well as against God’s will.  Only man […]

06/09/18 . “what does Torah say about suicide?” – Nothing.  .  . unless suicide is relegated under the 6th commandment:  Thou shalt not murder.  For that is virtually what it amounts to, the snuffing out of the “breath of life” of another individual or of oneself.  Suicide — the murder of the self.  Is that a “sin”? Is […]

Scripture says

(Deut 10:12-15)

12  And now, what does YHWH your God demand of you?

Only this: to hold YHWH your God in awe, to walk in all his paths,

to love him, and to serve YHWH your God

with all your heart and all your soul,

13  to observe YHWH’s commandments and his laws,

which I enjoin upon you this day, for your own benefit.

14  Mark well, the heavens to their uttermost reaches

belong to YHWH your God, the earth and everything on it!

15  Yet it was only for your forefathers

that YHWH took a passion, loving them, s

o that he chose their descendants after them—you!—

from among all the peoples, as is the case today.

Sinaites say . . .

Source: Exodus/Shemoth 24 – "the sight of the Glory of YHVH (was) like a consuming fire" -- We gentiles living in this 21st century are able to experience that climactic moment [God appearing on Sinai] by reading and studying this portion of the TORAH. Indeed, we see YHWH not quite as dramatically as the mixed multitude did, but perhaps even better through these accounts recorded in Exodus. There is a saying that hindsight is 20/20 vision, i.e., we begin to see and understand the question marks in our past only later in our lives, as we mature and hopefully become wiser and more introspective about the meaning or seeming meaninglessness of happenings in history, whether personal, national, or universal.  Søren Kierkegaard adds a twist to this:   “Only 20:20 vision is hindsight.  Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”  As we endeavor to understand each portion in the TORAH of YHWH, much of it will seem irrelevant to our current situation but if we see beyond the time-bound cultural and religious situations and begin to understand what truly has not change—human nature and the Great Revelator who designed the perfect blueprint for living in peace, happily and contentedly with family, community, country and the nations, the unquestionable conclusion is:  TORAH is relevant to ALL humankind, not just to Israel, to this very day.
