“From the cowardice that shirks from new truth,

From the laziness that is content with half truth,

From the arrogance that thinks it knows all truth,

O GOD of TRUTH, deliver us” - An Old Jewish Prayer

Satisfaction – What? Who? Why?

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[I found this handwritten text in my folder; I don’t know– who wrote it, when I got it, and why do I even have it?  I’m guessing that it was written by Sinaite ELZ who had contributed many posts to this website when she was still ‘with us’,, that is, living on earth.    Please check out: […]

What does the God of Israel require of Gentiles?

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[First posted in 2014;  —Admin1]   ————-   Sinaites were invited to a gathering of Jewish men (and their partners) who have formed a local Jewish club in our city of residence.  The occasion for the gathering was to meet a young Jewish rabbi . . . he looked like the stereotype you see in […]

A Sinaite’s Musical Liturgy – 2nd Sabbath of October 2019

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

Image from jp.depositphotos.com [Singing the Sabbath liturgy is a Sinaite’s ‘prayerful tribute in music’ to the God we love and worship.  We take our cue from Christian hymnologists who were inspired not only to pay tribute to the Christian God but to teach the flock through the lyrics of simple tunes. That is why they wrote 4 […]

Q&A: That recurring question about Israel’s ‘chosen-ness’…

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[First posted in 2012, shortly after we started this website.  When a visitor clicks old posts, it gives us the opportunity to review it and decide if it is still relevant to our ever-developing current understanding and convictions. This week, Israel is again in the news, battling it out with an old old enemy that […]

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life – Proverbs 11:30

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[First posted on June 7, 2012.   The Hebrew Scriptures often communicate divine truths in fictional as well as historical narratives.  We read story after story about God in conversation or interacting with men from Genesis through Deuteronomy. Teachings, instructions and laws, as well as examples,  are embedded in these stories.  That is why they […]

Journey of Faith – Sarah’s déjà vu

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[First posted August 6, 2012; yes it has been that long and therefore deserves a revisit. If Abraham had a ‘deja vu’, so did Sarah.  As previously explained, this series titled “Journey of Faith” is the Sinaite’s interpretation, separated from the three commentaries normally featured in chapter by chapter discussions.  Our translation of choice is […]

October 22 – Day to Celebrate The Torah of YHWH

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

According to the Jewish Calendar which we regularly check so we could celebrate with Israel the days that are of national importance to them,  Oct 22   is Simchat Torah , “Day of Celebrating the Torah”.   To observant Jews like the Rabbis and those who practice Judaism, the TORAH is the end-all and be-all of life and why […]

A Sinaite’s Musical Liturgy – 4th Sabbath of October

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[As former Catholics/Evangelicals/Messianics, we Sinaites have committed many Christian hymns to memory.  We love the music, yet can no longer sing the lyrics . . . so what to do? The next best thing!  Since imitation is the best compliment (that is our excuse anyway), we’ve borrowed the music, rewritten the lyrics according to our […]

Q&A: Why is Seth the one “in the likeness of Adam” instead of firstborn son Cain?

[First posted in 2012, at the beginning of this website. At the time, we had no original articles of our own and were scrambling for something to post, so we resorted to a lot of “Ask the Rabbi” fillers — this is one of them. Fast forward to 2019, we have come to understand TORAH […]

How now do we observe “My” feasts?

October 1, 2019 s1n4i600o-adm1n-d3v Leave a Comment

[This was originally posted in 2013 and revisited during the autumn feasts commanded to Israel in  Leviticus 23.  In the first two years of our pilgrimage, we were not sure how non-Israelites or Gentiles like ourselves were to observe these divinely-commanded feasts.  At that time, we decided to ‘play it safe’; in other words, ‘just do it!’  As […]

Scripture says

(Deut 10:12-15)

12  And now, what does YHWH your God demand of you?

Only this: to hold YHWH your God in awe, to walk in all his paths,

to love him, and to serve YHWH your God

with all your heart and all your soul,

13  to observe YHWH’s commandments and his laws,

which I enjoin upon you this day, for your own benefit.

14  Mark well, the heavens to their uttermost reaches

belong to YHWH your God, the earth and everything on it!

15  Yet it was only for your forefathers

that YHWH took a passion, loving them, s

o that he chose their descendants after them—you!—

from among all the peoples, as is the case today.

Sinaites say . . .

Source: Exodus/Shemoth 24 – "the sight of the Glory of YHVH (was) like a consuming fire" -- We gentiles living in this 21st century are able to experience that climactic moment [God appearing on Sinai] by reading and studying this portion of the TORAH. Indeed, we see YHWH not quite as dramatically as the mixed multitude did, but perhaps even better through these accounts recorded in Exodus. There is a saying that hindsight is 20/20 vision, i.e., we begin to see and understand the question marks in our past only later in our lives, as we mature and hopefully become wiser and more introspective about the meaning or seeming meaninglessness of happenings in history, whether personal, national, or universal.  Søren Kierkegaard adds a twist to this:   “Only 20:20 vision is hindsight.  Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”  As we endeavor to understand each portion in the TORAH of YHWH, much of it will seem irrelevant to our current situation but if we see beyond the time-bound cultural and religious situations and begin to understand what truly has not change—human nature and the Great Revelator who designed the perfect blueprint for living in peace, happily and contentedly with family, community, country and the nations, the unquestionable conclusion is:  TORAH is relevant to ALL humankind, not just to Israel, to this very day.
